Privacy policy

Wine Dude is a guide to wine places and events in Israel. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the website, why we collect it, who we share it with and what choices you have.
1. What we collect
- Account details. When you sign up: your email address and password (stored only in encrypted, hashed form by our authentication provider). Optionally: first name, last name, profile photo and preferred language.
- What you add to the site. Reviews (rating, text, photos), saved places and saved events, reports about incorrect content.
- Business requests. If you claim a place or manage a business listing: your role, a contact phone and email, supporting details you provide, proposed listing changes, events and team members.
- Photos. Before storing an uploaded photo we remove its hidden metadata (such as GPS location and camera details).
- Usage analytics — only with your consent. If you press “Accept” in the cookie banner, Google Analytics records which pages you visit and actions such as saving a place, adding an event to your calendar, pressing “Get tickets”, submitting a review, signing up or logging in. It also receives technical data such as your browser, device, approximate location and the site that referred you.
- Technical data. Our hosting and security providers process your IP address and browser details to deliver the site, protect it from abuse and keep it secure.
2. Why we use it
- To run your account and show you your saved places, events and reviews.
- To publish reviews after moderation. A published review shows your first name, last name and profile photo next to it.
- To verify business owners and review listing changes and events before they appear publicly.
- To send account emails, such as email confirmation.
- To protect sign-in and sign-up forms from bots and abuse.
- With your consent, to understand how the site is used and improve it.
We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it for advertising.
3. Cookies and analytics
The site uses your browser’s local storage for things it needs to work, such as keeping you signed in and remembering your language. These do not require consent.
Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) are set only after you press “Accept”. Before they are sent, page addresses are cleaned: we never send your email, your user ID, search text that looks like an email or phone number, or sign-in links. Google Signals and ad personalisation are turned off. Analytics data is kept for 14 months.
You can change your choice at any time: . If you decline, we stop analytics and delete the Google Analytics cookies from this site.
4. Who we share it with
We use trusted service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Supabase — database, accounts and sign-in.
- Cloudflare — website hosting, photo storage and Turnstile bot protection on sign-in and sign-up forms.
- Google — Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies.
- OpenFreeMap — map tiles. Your browser requests map images directly from them, so they see your IP address.
Some of these providers store data on servers outside Israel, including in the European Union and the United States. We may also disclose data if the law requires it.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account exists. Reviews, saved items and business records are kept until you delete them or ask us to delete your account. Analytics data is deleted automatically after 14 months.
6. Your rights
You can view and update your profile on your account page. You can also ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, or delete your account and the data linked to it. Under Israel’s Protection of Privacy Law, and the GDPR if you are in the EU, you have the right to access and correct your data and to complain to the relevant authority, such as the Israeli Privacy Protection Authority.
7. Security
Data is sent over encrypted HTTPS connections. Access to the database is limited by row-level security rules, and only our team can reach moderation tools. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and fix problems quickly.
8. Children
Wine Dude is about alcohol and is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
